Rules of the deck
- One step at a time — don’t rush
- If something goes wrong: pause, think
- Never put a hand over the side
- Never push off outside — use fenders only
- Discuss the worst-case scenario and prepare for it
- Neutral is your friend
- The captain gives orders — don’t listen to people panicking on the dock
Docking sequence
- Windward aft line secure — 3–4 meters from the quay
- Use forward on the engine to hold the boat secure
- Forward mooring line — windward or leeward, whichever is further from the prop
- Second mooring line
- Leeward aft line secure — with slack
- Use reverse to test forward mooring lines — distance is right when about 1.5–2 m from the quay in reverse
- Tighten aft mooring lines
